Why patients from across
north Chennai choose her
Cataract surgery has changed enormously over the past over 25 years, and Dr Vasantha Gowri has practised through all of it. Her training at Madras Medical College gave her the surgical foundation; 25 years of operating has given her the judgment that training alone cannot supply. When she assesses a cataract, the decision is not simply about the clouding of the lens to it is about the whole eye, the patient's life, and what outcome is realistic.
At Aadithya Eye Care, every cataract patient is examined with a slit lamp, biometry for IOL power calculation, and where appropriate, additional imaging to check the cornea and retina before any surgery is planned. Nothing is assumed. Patients have occasionally arrived convinced they need an operation only to be told the cataract does not yet justify one. That kind of honest assessment is what keeps patients returning to Perambur rather than going to larger, busier facilities elsewhere in Chennai.
The surgery itself is stitch-free phacoemulsification, arranged at a partner hospital: the lens is emulsified with ultrasound through a micro-incision and a foldable intraocular lens is inserted, usually as a day-care procedure, so most patients are back home the same day. The choice of lens, monofocal, multifocal or toric, is discussed carefully beforehand here at the clinic, not handed to the patient as a menu to pick from without context. See the full cataract surgery service page for a detailed explanation of the options.

Detailed guideMonofocal Intraocular Lens
The standard IOL, optimised for distance vision. Reliable, proven, and the right choice for most patients. Reading glasses may still be needed for close work.
Detailed guideMultifocal (Premium) IOL
Designed to provide clear vision at multiple distances, potentially reducing dependence on glasses for both near and far tasks. Discussed carefully for each patient's specific needs.
Detailed guideToric IOL for Astigmatism
A specialised lens that corrects astigmatism at the same time as the cataract is removed. An option for patients with significant corneal astigmatism who want clearer post-operative vision.
Detailed guidePre-operative assessment
A-scan biometry for precise IOL power calculation, corneal topography, and a full anterior and posterior segment evaluation before any procedure is planned.
Our diagnosticsCataract diagnosis and monitoring
Not every cataract needs surgery immediately. We monitor lens changes over time and advise surgery only when it is genuinely in your interest.
Cataract symptoms guideA dedicated eye clinic,
not a general OPD
Cataract surgery in a hospital that treats every type of condition is not the same as surgery done by a surgeon whose entire career has been ophthalmology. The difference shows in the pre-operative thoroughness, the post-operative follow-up and the attention to what your vision actually needs.
In-house biometry and diagnostics
IOL power is calculated here, using your own measurements. No sending you somewhere else for the scans, then piecing together reports from multiple places.
The same surgeon at every visit
The doctor who examines you is the doctor who operates and who sees you at follow-up. Continuity matters in surgical care to your history does not get lost between appointments.
Cashless insurance assistance
Cataract surgery is often covered by health insurance, and cashless approval depends on the partner hospital used for your surgery. We support cashless claims and guide you through the paperwork. Check coverage details.

Cataracts develop gradually, and many people put off the conversation longer than they should. An examination takes thirty minutes and gives you a clear picture of where your eyes stand. Book a consultation or call the clinic directly.
